F1 Driver Ratings: France 2018
Lewis Hamilton dominated the French Grand Prix to retake the championship lead. The Brit and Max Verstappen avoided the first lap carnage and both controlled the race from then on in.
Verstappen was able to move away from Daniel Ricciardo who sustained damage to his car midway through the race. This allowed Kimi Raikkonen to catch the Australian and take the final step on the podium. Vettel recovered to 5th and an innocent Valtteri Bottas had to settle for 7th behind Kevin Magnussen as best of the midfield.

Lewis Hamilton and Carlos Sainz top the ratings with a score of 9.5 as they both had excellent weekends in their respective cars. Hamilton was dominant at the front and Sainz was very quick all weekend and would easily have finished best of the rest if it wasn’t for an engine issue with four laps remaining.
Bringing up the rear is Pierre Gasly. The rookie caused a collision which not only took himself out but also his fellow Frenchman Esteban Ocon. A massive shame for both drivers but Gasly wasn’t quite as sharp as he has been this season and that one mistake had massive consequences. Hopefully he can pick himself up from the unfortunate incident.
