Top 10 British Racers of 2018
2018 was another highly successful year for British racers, with four World champions and many front-running contenders in every aspect of motorsport. I’ve compiled this list of the top 10 drivers and riders from the year to highlight the super year we’ve had. Obviously, I have to stress that this is purely my opinion.
10) Lando Norris – FIA Formula 2 Vice Champion
A season which started with pole and the win in Bahrain, but Lando will be disappointed to only be second in the standings. He was one of the most entertaining drivers on the grid as he pulled off some outstanding overtaking moves but he struggled to get his Pirelli tyres in the optimum window often enough and lost out in a single-seater championship for the first time EVER in his career. Still, he’s got a season of Formula 1 to look forward to in 2019, could be worse!
9) Leon Haslam – British Superbike Champion
Completely dominant, Haslam was the standout rider in BSB, winning 15 of the 26 races ran in 2018 on his Kawasaki. His ruthless winning also earnt him a seat at the Kawasaki World Superbike team for 2019 alongside four-time World Champion Jonathan Rea (more on him later). Jake Dixon tried his best to keep up with the ‘Pocket Rocket’ but Leon was head and shoulders above everyone throughout the season.
