Esports: Codemasters announce F1 2020 game
It’s time to make some noise in the Formula One gaming world, and that’s what developers Codemasters® have done with their teaser trailer for the upcoming F1® 2020 game with big reveal being the opportunity at creating an ’11th’ team to run in the new ‘My Team’ mode, giving the player the reigns at creating their own Formula One Team and writing their name into F1 folklore.
It has been relatively quiet in the Codemasters camp this year, and with little details being leaked about the final game to be solely on this current generation of consoles, without warning they dropped an announcement trailer on April 15th on their YouTube and social media channels.
Among recent years features such as ‘Classic Cars’ and an enhanced career mode, including a brief spell in Formula Two fighting the dastardly ‘Devon Butler’ in the 2019 edition have been included. The announcement yesterday introduced this new mode that will hopefully keep fans playing the game throughout the year before the highly anticipated move to ‘next-gen’ consoles at the end of 2020 with the soon to be released Playstation 5 and XBOX Series X.
‘My Team’ will give players the chance at customising their own team, sponsors, season and outcome and adding it to the current Formula One paddock. If you don’t have time for the longest ever 22 race long F1 World Championship season, then it will let you tailor a 10 or 16 race season with yet to be seen tracks of Vietnam’s Hanoi Circuit and Circuit Zandvoort in the Netherlands included in the new iteration.
Creating an eleventh team is something that fans and players of the game have been asking for over a number of years, and with deep car and team customisation on the likes of GT Sport and iracing.com at the hearts of many. Codemasters have got to keep up and this feature seems to be the start of what will hopefully be a fantastic gaming experience.
The game will also feature three editions with the ‘F1 2020: F1 Seventy Edition’ and ‘F1 2020 Deluxe Schumacher Edition’ available for those who want to play with some of Michael Schumacher’s iconic Formula One machinery such as the;
- 1991: Jordan 191
- 1994: Benetton B194
- 1995: Benetton B195
- 2000: Ferrari F1-2000
Whilst the ‘F1 2020: F1 Seventy Edition’ will also have additional content to celebrate Formula One’s seventy year history, with some exclusive in-game items and a steel-book cover.
“F1® 2020 promises to be our biggest and most innovative title to date,” said Paul Jeal, F1® Franchise Director at Codemasters. “Our core players will welcome even greater gameplay depth with the introduction of our brand-new My Team feature, alongside three customisable season lengths which allows them to pick their favour tracks. In the year where Lewis Hamilton is going for his seventh World Championship, we celebrate the greatest F1® driver of all time with our Michael Schumacher Deluxe Edition, which we know will prove popular with our community.”
“As huge fans of F1®, we continue to innovate and develop game modes that bring players even closer to the real-world sport,” said Lee Mather, F1® 2019 Game Director at Codemasters. “We’ve also added new modes to enable more casual players to get up to speed more easily, and we’ve brought back split-screen for social play with friends. The additions reduce both the difficulty and time barrier to entry while retaining the car handling that our simulation players love.”
We will keep you up to date with any more feature announcements before the game is released on July 10th 2020 on Playstation 4, XBOX One, Google Stadia and PC.
