F1: Silverstone and Liberty reach agreement to host two races
Formula 1 and Silverstone have agreed a deal for two grand prix to be ran this season.
The two races will take place following both of the Austrian Grand Prix.
However, this week the UK government plans to impose a two-week quarrantine for all international arrivals which may threaten the duo of British Grand Prix.
Silverstone managing director, Stuart Pringle, said: “I am delighted to confirm that Silverstone and Formula 1 have reached an agreement in principle to host two races behind closed doors this summer.
“However these races will be subject to government approval, as our priority is the safety of all involved and strict compliance with Covid-19 regulations.
“I would like to thank all our fans who have been so supportive throughout this and to assure them we are determined to do all we can to help Formula 1 put on a show this summer.”
Formula 1 is now seeking to secure exemption for its staff and all team members. No date has been given for when the quarrantine measures will begin but the government has said it will be soon.
According to the latest Formula 1 calendar, the Silversone rounds will take place on 26 July and 2 August.
This follows the news that the Belgian Grand Prix was given the go-ahead by its government this morning.
