
Moto2: Portimao Test Day One
Moto2 have finished their first of three days of official testing at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve (Portimao) here’s how the Championship favourites did.
The top Moto2 rider from the first day of official testing was British rider Jake Dixon, The 26-year-old joined the GasGas Aspar Team for this season and set a lap time of 1:43.169 at the first test of the year!
Aron Canet finished second place for the Flexbox HP40 squad and was 0.075 seconds off of Dixon’s lap time. The 22-year-old looks like he could challenge for the Championship this year.
The new Red Bull KTM Ajo rider, Augusto Fernandez, finished third place and was 0.089 seconds off of first place. Could Red Bull KTM Ajo win the Championship two years in a row?
The reigning Moto3 Champion, Pedro Acosta, finished his first official Moto3 test in fourth place. Could the Moto2 rookie win the Championship in his first year, just like in Moto3?
Cameron Beaubier rounded out the top five for the American Racing Team. The 29-year-old looks like he has come to grips with the Moto2 bike and could fight at the front this season.
Ai Ogura finished sixth on the Honda Team Asia machine. The 21-year-old will definitely fight for the Championship this season and will be knocking on MotoGPs door for 2023.
Sam Lowes finished the first day of testing down in twenty second place. The number twenty two will be determined to jump up the time sheets tomorrow!
