Ayrton Simmons Joins CDR for F3 Challenge
It has been announced this morning that Ayrton Simmons, the F4 British Championship multiple-race winner will join the Chris Dittmann Racing squad for the remainder of the BRDC British F3 Championship.
Simmons has been a front-runner of the F4 series for over two years now, making his debut in 2016 when he joined after the opening two rounds due to age restrictions. Despite his lost track time, he finished runner-up in the rookie cup.
Sticking with the TRS Arden team he enjoyed a mediocre season in 2017, picking up his first race win before moving to JHR Developments for 2018. He currently lies second in the championship with three wins at the halfway point of the season.
“I’m really excited to be stepping up to BRDC British F3 in time for the Spa Francorchamps round. This is the next step up in my career and while it’s come earlier than we expected, it’s too good an opportunity to miss. It’s a move I expected to make anyway and now I have a chance to learn the car and series ahead of hopefully a full season in 2019.” – said Simmons.
Both Chia Wing Hoong and Harry Webb have driven for the CDR team this year, but with neither present for the last round at Silverstone, Simmons signing may be a tactic for the team to remain on the grid for the remainder of the year.
“We’re really pleased to have Ayrton join us ahead of the next round of the BRDC British F3 Championship. He has shown what he is capable of in the past couple of years and we are really looking forward to working with a driver of his potential, especially after we had our best round of the year so far at Snetterton. We’re excited to see what he can do with us and can’t wait to get going at Spa.” – said Chris Dittmann
With no rounds of the F3 and F4 clashing for the remainder of the series it is suspected that the 17-year-old will continue to focus on his championship fight as he evaluates a move for 2019.
