F1 set to start 2020 season in Austria with double header
The 2020 Formula One World Championship season is set to get underway in Austria at the Red Bull Ring.
Two races are planned to take place in Spielberg with one on the originally planned 5 July and another a week later on 12 July.
Red Bull’s Helmut Marko told Austrian media outlet O3, “If all the official requirements made by the Austrian government can be met, there will be an Austrian Grand Prix.
“Only a second wave of infections will prevent a race from taking place.”
The plan is that 2000 people will be allowed at the venue with no fans or independent journalists allowed.
Austrian media also say that all team members must arrive in Austria with a test certificate, proving they have been tested for coronavirus.
Already, 400 people who work at the Red Bull Ring have been tested for coronavirus.
Discussion is ongoing about whether one race will take place in the afternoon and one in the evening to add a different variable to the second grand prix.
