BREAKING: Lorenzo replaces Pedrosa to partner Marquez at Repsol Honda for 2019 and 2020
HRC have announced the signing of three-times MotoGP World Champion Jorge Lorenzo. The Spanish rider will join the Repsol Honda Team for the next two years, alongside six time champion and current championship leader, Marc Marquez.
Rumours began circulating that Jorge Lorenzo may well be joining the Repsol Honda team when HRC announced that Dani Pedrosa’s contract would finally be terminated, ending an 18 year relationship which has seen three world titles in the smaller classes.
Should Jorge Lorenzo become at-one with the Repsol Honda and win a race, he would become the first rider since Eddie Lawson in 1992 to win a race on three different bikes – Lawson won on Honda and Yamaha, whilst taking his last victory for Cagiva in a thrilling Hungaroring race in 1992, the last to be held in Hungary.
Jorge Lorenzo moved into the top ten in the MotoGP championship after his first win for Ducati at Mugello. It was Lorenzo’s first win since Valencia 2016 and became the sixth winner for the Italian manufacturer since they joined the championship in 2003.
Looking ahead to the next round, Lorenzo is in with a chance of taking his first back-to-back victories in MotoGP since Le Mans and Mugello in 2016, whilst looking to take his first win at Catalunya since 2015, on a Yamaha.
