Official: Nico Hulkenberg returns to F1 and Racing Point
Nico Hulkenberg has replaced Sergio Perez at Racing Point for this weekend’s British Grand Prix.
Perez tested positive for coronavirus and has gone into self-quarantine along with all his close contacts which includes members of the Racing Point team.
Hulkenberg previously drove for Racing Point when it was called Force India from 2014 to 2016 and holds the record for the most grand prix starts without a podium.
The German will race with the number 27 which he used during his stint at Renault.
In a statement Racing Point said: “Nico’s experience of racing in contemporary Formula 1 and his strong track record ensure he is the ideal driver to stand in for Sergio Perez this weekend.
“In a bid to minimise disruption and ensure the best possible chance of building upon the team’s strong start to the 2020 campaign, Nico’s familiarity with the team will prove invaluable.”
With the pace of the Racing Point he has a chance to finally get onto the podium in Formula 1.
