BREAKING: Pirelli to become Moto3 and Moto2 tyre supplier
Pirelli replace Dunlop to become Moto3 and Moto2’s sole tyre manufacturer from 2024.
From 2024 Pirelli will replace Dunlop to become Moto3 and Moto2’s sole tyre supplier from 2024 until 2026. Pirelli will take the reins from Dunlop who have supplied tyres for the lightweight classes for over a decade.
Pirelli would also become the sole tyre supplier for junior championships across the world which are a part of The Road To MotoGP. These include JuniorGP, Asian Talent Cup, and the Nothern Talent Cup. They will also become the sole tyre supplier for the Red Bull Rookies Cup. This will allow riders to learn and develop their skill onboard Pirelli tyres before moving to Moto3 and Moto2.
Becoming a sole tyre supplier is not something which Pirelli are not used to with the tyre used in both the WorldSBK paddock and BSB.
Pirelli made a name for themselves in the WorldSBK paddock after becoming their sole tyre supplier 20 years ago. Since then Pirelli and Dorna announced that the partnership will continue until at least the 2026 WorldSBK season.
Pirelli is also Formula One’s sole tyre supplier after taking over from Bridgestone and also became the World Rally Championship’s sole tyre supplier.
Michelin will continue as MotoGP’s sole tyre supplier, with the French tyre manufacturer’s deal running until 2026.
In their time in Grand Prix, Dunlop has been one of the most successful tyre manufacturers in the lightweight classes in the Grand Prix. Before coming on board to become the sole tyre supplier, Dunlop was used in both 125cc and 250cc Grand Prix. In the 250cc class, Dunlop took an incredible 17 titles, showing their dominance in the class.
Carlos Ezpeleta is ‘looking forward to working with Pirelli’
Carlos Ezpeleta, Chief Sporting Officer, Dorna Sports: “We’re super happy to welcome Pirelli to the paddock as the sole tyre supplier for Moto2 and Moto3. These Championships are the best example in motorsport of strong feeder classes that also stand alone as high-level competitions, in terms of both their sporting and commercial value.
“So we’re very happy to have seen such a high level of interest from Pirelli and to reach this agreement. Welcoming a new partner also underlines our sport’s strong connections and relationships with the industry, and we’re very much looking forward to working with Pirelli across a number of areas, including performance, road relevance and, of course, sustainability.”
