British F3: American USF2000 Star Kaylen Frederick Signs for Carlin
16-year-old Kaylen Frederick will make his competitive racing debut in the UK this year as he joins Carlin in the BRDC British F3 Championship.
Frederick follows in the footsteps of other American drivers such as Colton Herta and Cameron Das, who both joined Carlin for UK campaigns after success in the States. Das notably, made a similar move to British F3, picking up one win before stepping up to EuroFormula Open last season, in which Frederick already has experience.
Kaylen made two appearances in the European championship last season which included a fifth place at Monza where he also picked up a fastest lap.
He has been a regular in the American Formula Ford scene, collecting pole on his F2000 Series debut in 2016 and finishing fourth in U.S. F2000 National standings in 2017. He collected nine podiums and two pole positions during his time in the Road to Indy championship.
“I’m very excited to continue my racing career in the BRDC British Formula 3 Championship with Carlin. I have done a lot of pre-season testing already which has shown me the experienced level of professionalism and overall strength that Carlin brings to a championship. I’m thrilled to continue progressing as a driver with this great team.
“I also want to thank my sponsor Pilot ONE Racing for continued support, including my full pre-season test calendar, and for making this 2019 program come together for me. I’m looking forward to this challenging and yet great year of racing ahead of us in the BRDC British F3 Championship.” – Kaylen Frederick
He becomes Carlin’s second signing for the new season, joining Formula 4 race winner Lucas Petersson at the establishment. He also becomes the seventh driver to be announced for the upcoming F3 season.
He had previously appeared with the team at Silverstone, during a British F3 test last November.
“Kaylen is the perfect example of a young driver just at the start of his career who will benefit from the considerable amount of testing and racing the BRDC British F3 Championship offers. He’s already made a great start in winter testing with some obvious progress. We look forward to working with him this season and fighting for some top results together.” – Trevor Carlin, Team Principal.
