British F3: Josh Mason confirmed at Lanan racing for 2019
Joshua Mason will continue with Lanan Racing for his first full season in the British Formula 3 in 2019.
Mason competed in five of the eight rounds in 2018, ending his season with a controversial victory in the final race of the year at Silverstone
Since the end of the F3 season, the 16-year-old turned his focus to the MRF Challenge, where he claimed four points finishes in the opening round in Dubai.
Now Mason hopes to build on the experience in the two championships as he enters his second year of car racing.
“It’s going to be good working with the same team I drove for in the 2018 season, and I think the team and I can excel for the upcoming season,” he said.
“I have learnt so much in my first year of British F3. I improved through the season but when I missed a couple of rounds because of my education, I almost had to start again when I returned at Spa.
“But I had a great team to work with for this year and without them I wouldn’t be where I am now.
“However there still is a bit more learning which I need to do for the 2019 season, but I think I can do better in the 2019 season.”
Mason finished 20th in the 2018 championship, picking up top 10 finishes in Rockingham and Donington Park before starting on pole for the reverse grid race at Silverstone.
Poor weather meant the field ran behind the safety car for a number of laps before the race was abandoned, but the victory was still handed to the Lanan Racing driver.
Team principal Graham Johnson hopes Mason will continue to develop and deliver strong results in 2019.
“We’re really pleased to be working with Josh again in 2019. He developed a lot with our programme last year and we saw big progress towards the end of the year once he was able to get in the car regularly.
“If he develops at a similar rate in the new season, he should be capable of delivering some strong results.”
