British Talent Cup: Brown tightens cup fight with Thruxton victory
Carter Brown (VSB Motorsport) had his tactics spot on to bag victory in Race 1 at Thruxton. He beat Jamie Lyons (C&M Motors Ltd / Tooltec Racing) on the final lap and crossed the line with just under two tenths in his favour. Cormac Buchanan (Microlise Creswell Racing) completed the podium.
Race 2 was cancelled after a number of delays due to the wet weather conditions. A new championship calendar with a replacement race will be issued at the upcoming round at Donington Park.
Evan Belford (City Lifting/RS Racing) continues to lead the cup standings after a damage limitation ride at Thruxton. He holds a 31 points advantage over Brown with Johnny Garness (City Lifting by RS Racing) another 19 points behind.
RACE 1
A glorious start kept polesitter Lyons in the lead at Allard, but he was claimed by Buchanan a few corners later. Brown was in the mix as well and the trio swapped paint on the opening lap.
In typical Thruxton fashion, riders capitalised on the slip stream opportunities and positions kept swapping and changing. Two trios formed at the top of the race with Lyons, Brown and Buchanan leading from Belford, Harrison Crosby (Banks Racing) and Ollie Walker (Moto Rapido/Sp125).
Cup leader Belford was in trouble on Lap 4 when he cut the Club Chicane and consequentially lost ground. He fell into a group of riders and signalled them to follow him and catch the front runners. However, his opponents seemed more interested in the battle at hand than the battle ahead.
Halfway through the race, Lyons and Brown kept exchanging P1 with Buchanan shadowing them closely. Walker and Crosby had closed back in and made it five riders in contention.
Buchanan showed his cards from Lap 9 and, after briefly battling with Brown, established himself in the lead. Brown held on to his Kiwi opponent, but a massive moment at Church on Lap 11 almost took him out of the race. He resettled and the pack bunched together.
Crosby led going into the final lap with Brown just behind him. Lyons momentarily claimed top, but Brown marshalled the Church chicane perfectly and swept past to bring P1 over the line. Lyons had to settle for second while Buchanan completed the podium.
Walker came home fourth, but Crosby dramatically crashed coming out of Club. James Cook (Wilson Racing) inherited fifth ahead of Belford who limited the damage in sixth.
