BSB: BREAKING: Luke Mossey joins OMG Racing for title charge in 2019
The OMG Racing UK Suzuki team are delighted to announce that they will enter their second season of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship racing with experienced young-gun, Luke Mossey. Mossey, being a Bennetts British Superbike race winner in 2017 and taking pole position in 2018, will look to fight for the top positions in the Bennetts British Superbike Championship 2019 season.
The 26-year-old came into the British Superbike paddock back in 2009 when he took 2nd place in the National Superstock 600 class. Moving up to British Supersport in the Privateer’s Cup in 2010, Mossey took 4 Privateer’s Cup wins; confirming his undoubted talent and class. His first British Supersport win came in 2014 at Knockhill and was later backed up with one more win and six other podium finishes.
Luke joined the premier class of British Superbikes in 2015 and made it in to the Showdown in 2016, earning a reputation for consistency and race craft. In 2017, his hard work paid off and he took his first Bennetts British Superbike wins at Brands Hatch Indy, before injury ruled him out of championship contention.
Looking to return to the forefront of the world’s leading domestic Superbike championship, Mossey is aiming to be back at the front on a bike that is now established; setting his sights on regaining that all-important Showdown spot and adding to his tally of race wins from 2017.
Luke Mossey:
“Well, the news is finally out that I will be joining OMG Racing UK for 2019, and I can’t wait to get started. It’s been a difficult year for me so a fresh start will do me the world of good. I get to work with my old crew, Ray Stringer, Jonny Gill and Pete Gill and I can’t wait to work with these guys again. We get to ride the bike twice before Christmas so hopefully we can get a good direction with the bike that will suit me.”
The ‘M’ of the OMG Racing team, Greg McPhail, is thrilled to announce the signing of Mossey. McPhail enters his second season of racing with fresh thoughts of living up to the promise of being, ‘bolder and better’ with Mossey coming on board.
“As a new team to the Bennetts British Superbike paddock in 2018, the ‘O’ ‘M’ & ‘G’ are delighted to have Luke Mossey join the family. Luke is a rider I have personally followed over the past few years and is undoubtedly a huge talent. I truly believe aboard the OMG Racing Suzuki, with the quality and passion of the team around him, there is no doubt he will be ‘Having Fun, Winning Races’.”
Team principal Paul Curran enjoyed his first year at OMG Racing and is looking forward to working with Luke Mossey for the 2019 campaign, in which both parties are focussing on being at the very top of Britain’s premier motorsport category.
“I’m looking forward to working with Luke for next year’s Bennetts BSB championship. He’s had a difficult year in 2018, but we are looking to put all that behind him and push forward to make sure we are in the showdown for 2019 and fighting for the championship.
“He has history with Ray and Jonny and they work very well together so, with the right package underneath him and the support of the team, I’m confident that the results will come.
“We have our first run out with Luke this weekend at the Race of the Year at Mallory Park, in Leicestershire. The weather is looking good so it will be a great event for his first, no pressure, taster of what the Suzuki can do.”
