BSB: Bridewell mounts podium for elated MotoRapido Ducati
Tommy Bridewell’s year may have started off in a turbulent fashion but the Wiltshire rider has turned it around since joining Steve Moore’s Winchester-based MotoRapido Ducati outfit. Bridewell rocketed off the front row to be a race leader in race one before finishing 2nd and was 3rd in a drying race two.
Leading for half of the first race, Bridewell was past by Jake Dixon but finished more than 10 seconds clear of Leon Haslam – the championship leader.
“I’m not making any excuses but there’s still a little bit of me that’s still understanding the Ducati towards the end of the race so we’re still learning. But we’re top Ducati yet again and it just goes to show that with the right team, just what I can do”, said Bridewell, who joined the team after having his services terminated at the Movuno.com Halsall Racing Team.
MotoRapido have also had their fair share of a difficult year so far, having parted company with Taylor Mackenzie at Knockhill, making Bridewell’s sensational podiums all the more worth it.
“I had confidence in the team and myself and we had pace in the wet and in the dry. It’s lovely to back it up in both conditions. Race 1, after Jake got away, I could just relax a bit, but in the second race I had to dig deep, really deep for it. But the bike was working absolutely spot on, Jake and Leon have just got a bit more momentum than me at the minute and there’s more at stake for them, so they have to ride a bit harder,” he concluded.
Bridewell’s double podium elevates him up the standings to 11th place on 128 points, just 10 points from Jason O’Halloran who occupies 7th place and the crucial riders’ cup winner position.
