BSB: IWR return to racing in British Superstock for 2023
The IWR team will return to the Pirelli National Superstock Championship for 2023. Alex Olsen will ride for the ream onboard a Honda CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP
Olsen has become a proven Superstock rider over the years. He has finished third in the championship across the last two seasons. This season alone Olsen claimed eight podiums and two race wins.
IWR have been successful in the past in the British Superbike Championship. The team, who were then known as Quay Garage Racing, were two time BSB Cup Champions. The team celebrated victory in the former Cup class in 2005 with James Buckingham and in 2009 with Gary Mason.
With the teams past experience and Olsen being a proven Superstock title contender they could deliver good results in 2023.
Olsen said: “I am really excited to be joining the IWR Racing team for next season. I have worked with James Buckingham over the past five seasons and so it is great to have him working with me again next year. I am really happy to be joining such a prestigious team with the history that IWR and before that Quay Garage had in the past. I am looking forward to getting the season started and getting onboard the Honda after trying to beat them in the championship for the past two years!”
Team Owner Ian Woollacott commented: “I am really happy to announce that the IWR team are returning to racing in 2023 as we certainly feel that we have unfinished business! We ended the season in 2016 as we awaited the arrival of the latest Fireblade, combined with my own business commitments, but now we are back, refreshed and ready to fight for the title with Alex. He has proven himself in recent seasons to be a title contender and we are all eager to get started.”
