BTCC: Ash Sutton joins Laser Tools Racing for 2020 Campaign
Ashley Sutton has signed to join Laser Tools Racing for 2020. He will race alongside Scotsman Aiden Moffat who has been with the team since 2014 scoring three wins in 2017 and 2018. The team join forces with BMR Racing who have raced Sutton for the past three seasons.
This will be the first time Laser Tools Racing have entered more than one car in what has previously been a family-orientated effort. They will run the new Infiniti Q50’s for 2020, making a change from the Levorg.
Laser Tools had been a partner of Ciceley Racing running Mercedes-Benz A-Class’ until the end of the 2018 season when the two teams parted company.
Moffat and LTR continued to run the Mercedes for the first half of 2019 before making the switch to rear-wheeled drive Infiniti.
The announcement of Sutton will no doubt benefit the whole team after his three seasons in the Subaru Levorg which also runs rear-drive. Previously Sutton had tested the Infiniti in a sample session during the summer, so will not be heading into the winter blind.
Sutton won his BTCC title back in 2017 with the BMR team but has been underwhelmed by his two previous seasons in the Levorg. This will be Sutton’s fourth season in the UK’s top class of Touring Car racing;
“Aiden and I have had a respectful rivalry on track, there has been a few occasions where we have got our elbows out but it has always resulted in things staying clean. After visiting Laser HQ with Aiden and seeing the car during the build it’s left us both buzzing for what’s ahead.
“I sampled the Infiniti at Snetterton earlier this year and was really impressed. All of the ingredients are there and that was apparent when you look at Aiden’s run of results towards the end of the season.” – Ash Sutton.
The 2020 BTCC season gets underway at Derbyshire’s Donington Park circuit on March 28th – 29th.
