BTCC: Dan Cammish and Bobby Thompson side-lined for 2021
Team Dynamics’ Dan Cammish and Trade Price Cars’ Bobby Thompson will not feature in the 30-race British Touring Car season this year.
These departures are, no doubt, due to the ongoing financial struggles as a result of COVID-19.
Therefore, only four seats are left to fill in the BTCC paddock, with Nic Hamilton confirmed to race for one of Team Dynamics, Team HARD. or Power Maxed Racing.
Cammish, despite never winning a championship, always came close with the Halfords Yuasa Racing FK8 Civic. Debuting in 2018, he racked up 31 podiums, including eight wins, on top of a trio of third place finishes in the final standings.
The Yorkshireman also starred as the key protagonist to 2019’s dramatic finale, crashing out at Brands Hatch GP on the penultimate lap, handing the title to rival Colin Turkington.
Cammish’s replacement is expected to be announced on Friday 5 March, with rumours floating around of a dad and lad combination consisting of Matt and Henry Neal. Former champion Gordon Shedden is also a name at the forefront of discussions.
Essex-born Thompson also debuted in 2018, but, unlike Cammish, only managed a handful of top 10 finishes in aging Volkswagen CC and Audi S3 models.
The 2021 BTCC season will premiere at Thruxton on 8-9 May.
