BTCC: Gornall to make Debut with Trade Price Cars
Reigning MINI Challenge UK champion James Gornall will take this first steps in BTCC racing in 2020 as he joins Trade Price Cars.
The 35-year-old makes up one half of an all new driver line-up for the team alongside former Team HARD driver Bobby Thompson.
Gornall, known as ‘Jiggy’ to fans, takes the seat of ex-F1 driver Mark Blundell who announced his retirement from racing recently.
Jiggy is aiming to be the number one at TPC despite his rookie status.
He said:
“I am hoping to learn anything and everything from him (teammate Thompson), I’ll take his experience as much as I can and put it into practice because we’re always learning.
“I don’t go into anything thinking I’m not going to beat someone.”
Gornall revealed that this move has been in the pipeline for some time.
“I was actually here last year with Dan (Kirby, team owner) and said, ‘I’m going to win MINI’s this year (2019) and then come and race with you next year’ and look where we are.” – James Gornall
Gornall’s slender two point championship win in the MINI Challenge UK over Nathan Harrison was vital to his BTCC move and may be a points scorer, potentially from the off, when the season gets underway at Donington Park on 28-29 March.
