BTCC: New Video Game set for 2022 with Motorsport Games
The British Touring Car Championship has announced a long term agreement with video game developer Motorsport Games.
As part of the deal, a new game will be released on next generation consoles and PC for 2022. Furthermore, a devoted esports series will be created, as well as a possible mobile game.
This will be the first official BTCC game for over 20 years, with the previous virtual experience, TOCA Touring Car Championship, being released in 1997 for Windows and Playstation 1.
Naturally, the new game will be produced to a much higher quality, thanks to two decades of development and ‘market leading technology’.
Online racing will also be a staple feature, allowing people from all over the world to battle it out in some of the world’s greatest touring cars.
The potential for an Esports league will be significant for the BTCC, drawing more eyes to the series.
Motorsport Games’ past and present esports credentials include the 24 Hours of Le Mans Virtual, eNASCAR Heat Pro League, World Rallycross Esports Series, ABB Formula E Race at Home Challenge, #NotTheGP series and the Le Mans Esports Series.
Alan Gow, BTCC Chief Executive, said:
“Finally, I’m proud to say that the huge demand from the BTCC and TOCA game fans is being answered. Just like the original BTCC/TOCA game, this will be a dedicated BTCC game featuring all the cars, all the teams, all the drivers and all the circuits.”

Stephen Hood, President of Motorsport Games, said:
“Our team demonstrated real enthusiasm for the project from day one, and our ambitions were immediately aligned. We look forward to deploying the significant and proven capabilities of our esports, game development and media teams to return this series back to the forefront of gaming.”
