BTCC: Oliphant signs on with WSR and Team BMW for 2021
West Surrey Racing have today (10 February) announced that race-winner Tom Oliphant has signed for Team BMW ahead of 2021’s campaign.
The news comes shortly after four-time BTCC champion and teammate Colin Turkington committed his future to the squad for a fifth successive season.
Since his switch to the team in 2019, Oliphant has established himself as a competitive driver behind the wheel of the ever-dominant BMW 330i M Sport.
In the final race of last season’s trip to Brands Hatch GP, the Cheshire-born racer expertly claimed his first victory in the series, defending from a rampant Ash Sutton for most of the affair.
The 30-year-old also added three more podiums to his tally for the year as he placed sixth overall after 27 races – his strongest showing by some margin.
Regarding his extension with Team BMW, Oliphant said:
“I’m hugely excited about the season ahead, and naturally delighted to continue to race for Team BMW and WSR. I feel I’ve made a positive step forwards with my performance over the past two years and I now feel so dialled-in to the 330i M Sport.”
Team Principal Dick Bennetts also said:
“It was obvious to see how much Tom grew in confidence across the year and his constant improvement was key in enabling us to re-claim the Teams’ Championship for Team BMW. I think we’ll see even more from Tom in 2021, which would be great for both him and us.”
