BTCC: PMR confirm Plato’s seat in 2021
Power Maxed Racing have today (22 January) announced that Jason Plato has retained his place in the squad’s line-up for the upcoming season.
Plato, who was to originally partner Mat Jackson throughout last year’s campaign, endured a 12-month sabbatical from the championship due to COVID-19.
The record victory-taker in the BTCC will be aiming for his 100th in the category come November’s finale, whilst notching up 600 race starts on the way.
In order to retain their British Touring Car licence, PMR fielded one of their Vauxhall Astras across the final two thirds of the 2020 season, gifting debuts to the likes of Brad Philpot, Jess Hawkins and BTC Racing’s Jade Edwards.
Plato’s teammate in the second tin-top machine is yet to be announced.
On the matter, Jason Plato said:
“Obviously 2020 was less than ideal for many of us but it gave me time to put a lot of things into perspective. I was lucky enough to be able to spend a lot more time than I normally would at home with the family, but I’m itching to get back in a race car now. It’s the longest I’ve been without racing, and it’s made me appreciate just how much I love it, and I have really missed my team.”
Adam Weaver, PMR’s Team Principal, said:
“Following on from Jason’s success at the end of 2019, coupled with the extensive development programme we’ve been working on over the winter, I’m feeling cautiously optimistic about some strong results in 2021 and beyond. And, obviously, Jason bagging his unparalleled 100th win in the Astra!”
