BTCC: Rick Parfitt Jr. to race with EXCELR8 Trade Price Cars in 2021
The son of former Status Quo singer and British GT star Rick Parfitt Jr. has made the switch to tin-top racing with EXCELR8 Trade Price Cars.
The 46-year-old completes the combined teams’ driver line-up in 2021, racing alongside Tom Ingram, Chris Smiley and Jack Butel.
The Surrey-born racer has a unique history in motorsport, first truly displaying his skills behind the wheel at the Celebrity Challenge race at Silverstone in 2011, qualifying on pole and winning the event.
Climbing through the various ranks of British GT competition soon after, Parfitt Jr. reached the pinnacle in 2017 when he bagged the GT3 Championship crown in a Bentley Continental GT.
Having been side-lined in 2020 due to on-going health problems with Crohn’s disease, Parfitt Jr. has made the step up to the British Touring Cars, gunning for the coveted Jack Sears Trophy.
Regarding the high-profile switch in series, Parfitt Jr. said:
“I’m massively excited about the prospect of moving into the BTCC with EXCELR8 Trade Price Cars. When I was younger, I used to sell advertising in Motorsport News and Autosport and was a huge fan of the series, so it’s amazing to now have the opportunity be part of the grid myself. It’s a chance to live the dream.”
EXCELR8 Trade Price Cars Team Owner, Justina Williams, also said:
“I’m thrilled that we have been able to conclude a deal with Rick for 2021, as he was the person who I really wanted in the car to complete our new-look driver line-up. Alongside Tom Ingram, Chris Smiley and Jack Butel, we now have four drivers that I feel give us a fantastic chance to make the season ahead a success both on and off the track.”
