Carlin Names First Driver for 2019 BRDC British F3 Championship
Swedish racer Lucas Petersson is the first driver to be confirmed for the 2019 BRDC British Formula 3 championship after signing with Carlin Motorsport.
The 17-year-old, who spent the past year racing in the F4 United Arab Emirates Championship, has already begun testing with Carlin ahead of his F3 debut.
He finished fourth in this year’s F4 UAE championship, having taken two victories and five podiums with Siberpfeil Energy Dubai.
“I’m really looking forward to racing in a championship and country that has such a rich heritage in motorsport. Being a young driver, I’ve always aspired to take part in this championship and to do it with such a successful team like Carlin is very humbling. I have no expectations apart from giving it all I’ve got.” Petersson said.
Petersson’s racing success started in karts, where he was crowned the 2017 UAE Junior Rotax Champion.
He made his car racing debut with a one off appearance in the F4 championship, before committing to a full-time campaign for the 2017-18 season.
The F4 race winner also competed in a handful of French F4 races.
Team boss Trevor Carlin hopes his new driver will be able to continue that success in F3.
“We are pleased to welcome Lucas to the team for the upcoming 2019 season. Lucas has already been testing with us and has made a good impression to the team.
“He’s already had good results in other championships he’s competed in so we’re looking forward to seeing what he can achieve in the BRDC British Formula 3 championship when it all kicks off again in April.”
Carlin ran five drivers over the course of last season, including runner-up Nicolai Kjaergaard and double amputee Billy Monger, who made his return to single-seaters.
