F1: First look at new Circuit Zandvoort in F1 2020
This weekend should have been the first Dutch Grand Prix since 1985. The return to Grand Prix racing in the Netherlands saw over one million applications for the ticket lottery with only a 105,000 available, and with the postponement due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic we are yet to see Formula One cars on the updated circuit. However, with help from Codemasters and the Official F1 2020 game due to be released in July, we have now seen what a lap around Circuit Zandvoort will look like.
The virtual look at the seaside circuit takes us onboard Max Verstappen’s Red Bull Racing car around what will eventually be a packed circuit with orange as far as they eye can see. Max’s fans already pack out stands around the world as they follow the young Dutchman, and you have to expect that Zandvoort will become as orange as Monza is red.
First looks at the track layout see the two DRS detection and activation zones on the entry/exit of turn 10 and then entry/exit of the daunting turn 14 “Arie Luyendykbocht” as the circuit navigates its no time to catch your breath 2.64 mile (4.25km) layout.
The circuit is sure to test drivers race-craft and overtaking prowess with limited overtaking seemingly available on a circuit which is mostly unchanged in layout since its last appearance in Formula One when Niki Lauda won from 10th on the grid in the McLaren-TAG beating team-mate Alain Prost by 0.232s.
Codemasters also released the front cover for its three versions of the game, this included the standard version, Seventy Year Edition and ‘Deluxe’ Michael Schumacher Edition.
Also shown off were this years liveries that will used on the 2020 cars.
The UK, Germany and other International territories get a combined 10 World Championship cover stars with Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel, whilst France, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Italy or Japan fans get Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen.
Spanish and Mexican fans receive a front cover with Sergio Perez and Carlos Sainz Jr., and Australian and Polish fans will see Daniel Ricciardo and Kimi Raikkonen on the box.
Head to Codemasters social media channels to see the covert art for your territory!
The game is released on July 10th 2020 on Playstation 4, XBOX One, Google Stadia and PC and we’ll keep you gaming fans up to date with any more announcements in the coming weeks!
