F1: Austria Confirmed to start 2020 season
The Austrian government has officially given the green light for Formula 1 to host two rounds at the Red Bull Ring.
Formula 1’s first race will take place on 5 July with a second grand prix on 12 July.
Track organisers presented a comprehensive plan to prevent the spread of infection which met the requirements set by Austria’s Ministry of Health.
Spectators will not be allowed and it is the first time in Formula 1’s history that two races will take place at the same track in the same season.
Minister of Health Rudolf Anschober said: “In addition to strict hygiene measures, the concept will see regular tests and health checks for the teams and all other employees.
“For the Ministry of Health, the concept fulfills the requirements for preventing the spread of the Corona virus after a detailed review by the company’s experts.
“It is absolutely essential that the applicable hygiene measures are observed by everyone and that the health authorities are informed about every step.”
Only the approval of the district administration is needed but that is a formality.
More details of how the event will work is expected next week along with the latest official calendar news from Formula 1 themselves.
