F1: Mercedes launch their 2021 title-chaser
Mercedes have unveiled their 2021 machine in a bid for an eighth consecutive double title, thus completing the hybrid-era dominance. However, will it guide Hamilton to his eighth championship crown?
The Silver Arrows have dominated the current era under the leadership of Toto Wolff and the late Nikki Lauda, and 2021 shouldn’t be any different as they stick with the same driver combination as last season.
In a powerful message against racism, Mercedes have once again kept the black-dominated livery. It also features considerable aerodynamic changes and major improvements to the engine and suspension; after all, their DAS system has been banned for this season.
Lewis Hamilton, who has fought strongly for racial equality, aims for a record eighth title in what could be his final season in F1, having only signed a one-year extension to his contract. In fact, both his and Valtteri Bottas’ tenures conclude at the end of this season, so a lot is still to be confirmed over this season.
Bottas, aiming to improve on a slightly disappointing recent campaign, has been very quiet on his future plans. 2020 was a difficult season, resulting in a year-long battle with both Verstappen and new tracks, most notably struggling with the low grip new surface of Istanbul.
