Formula E to Return to the UK after 4 Year Absence
The electric racing series, FIA Formula E, will return the United Kingdom for the first time since 2016. The new event will take place at the London Royal Docks.
It marks its return for the 2019/20 season, with a two day event on 25 and 26 July 2020, marking the end of the European season.
The circuit will take place around and through the London ExCel Centre, making it the first track to take place partially indoors. While much of the circuit circumnavigates the perimeter, the start line and opening corner complex will pass through the inside of the building, with the pitlane taking a shorter route, by hugging the shore line of the river Thames.
It won’t be the first new circuit on the map, with Seoul, South Korea having been confirmed last November.

I’m extremely excited to be bringing the ABB FIA Formula E Championship and electric racing back to the UK. Every motorsport series would love to host an event in London – this has been our desire for quite some time now and we’re delighted to have found a new home in the Royal Docks at ExCeL London. We have a growing base of knowledgeable and passionate fans in the UK, and this race adds to a fantastic summer of sport as a world-class event we hope Londoners can be proud of.” – Alejandro Agag.
Previous events have taken place at Battersea Park, though the event was halted due to protests from local residents.
“I’m absolutely delighted to see the return of Formula E to London. This innovative race series will be welcomed by fans throughout the country.” – David Richards, Chairman of the MSA.
Formula E continues this weekend in Hong Kong.
