MotoGP: Feature: 5 MUST-DO trips whilst at the San Marino GP
Ducati’s Museum, Borgo Panigale, Bologna
Take the short journey from Cattolica to Bologna and you’ll soon find yourself yearning to visit the Ducati Museum. If you go by train then fares to Bologna from Cattolica are from around €11 and then take a bus from Bologna to the museum, just an additional €1.50. There, you will find Casey Stoner’s championship winning Ducati, as well as Neil Hodgson and Carl Fogarty’s painting on the side of the museum itself. Like the Marco Simoncelli gallery, the museum is not the largest but it is just enough. Motorcycles right from the start of production up to Chaz Davies’ World Superbike machine, it is a feast for all Ducati fans to experience. You may even find out that Ducati didn’t start in motorcycle racing…
An additional factory tour is on offer and if you go after the Grand Prix weekend, you’ll likely get a discount if you display a valid ticket. As well as this, you can walk for five minutes and go to the ‘Ducati store’ where merchandise and biking gear is all available – they have a duty free outlet at Bologna airport too. If you do what I do and stay in Bologna for two nights before heading onwards to Cattolica for the GP weekend, then stay at the Hotel Amadeus, just a short walk from the museum. For top food in the Borgo Panigale area, eat the Pavaglione restaurant, where one-off Ducati memorabilia is there for all to see and enjoy, whilst the food is something incredible too!
