Alex Rins and Joan Mir will miss the German Grand Prix after suffering injuries.
Alex Rins and Joan Mir will miss the German Grand Prix after needing time to recover from injuries. There has been no announcement of a replacement rider, with no immediate replacement expected.
Alex Rins suffered from a fractured tibia and fibula after a crash during the MotoGP Sprint at Mugello. Rins underwent his first surgery on Saturday night, to stabilize the leg and reduce swelling.
Alex Rins then flew home to Spain where he will continue his recovery and healing process, after the crash. He will then undergo a second surgery later this week in Madrid to internally fix the bones. He will miss the German and the Dutch Grand Prix and is hoping to return for Silverstone.
Alex has had a mixed season, sitting as the top Honda in 11th position in the championship standings. The highlight of his season came at COTA as he became the first Honda to win this season.
Joan Mir underwent an MRI at the Centre d’Imatge Diagnostica de la Dre where it revealed a significant contusion on his right hand with synovial fluid and inflammation. This means that his hand had limited strength and mobility of his right hand.
After Mir and the Repsol Honda team took the results of the MRI into consideration. It was decided that Mir will not participate in the German GP. Instead of racing Mir will travel to Palma to visit his traumatologist, Dr. Juan Garcias.
This visit will be to decide and evaluate the best treatment and recovery plan for the injury to his right hand, in order to return as soon as possible. He will not be replaced by the German GP.
Joan Mir has had an incredibly tough season, currently sitting in 24th position in the championship standings. He is currently behind Ducati test rider and wildcards, Michele Pirro and Petrucci.
