GASGAS has announced their 2024 MotoGP line-up with Pedro Acosta joining the team.
GASGAS has announced their line-up for the 2024 MotoGP season with Pedro Acosta joining the squad. Augusto Fernandez will remain with the team for his second season in the premier class.
Pedro Acosta will join the MotoGP class in 2024 after months of speculation within the media and the KTM camp. After three years in the Grand Prix paddock – two years in Moto2 he will step up to MotoGP.
Acosta first came to the limelight in 2021, after he won the Moto3 World Championship in his rookie season. The 19-year-old is now leading the Moto2 World Championship with six wins to his name.
Augusto Fernandez will continue with the team which he spent his rookie season with this year. Fernandez stepped up to the class after winning the 2022 Moto2 World Championship after a season-long battle with Remy Gardner.
In his first season in the premier class, Fernandez is currently 14th in the standings after an impressive debut. His best result of the year came at Le Mans with a fourth-place finish for the rookie.
Pol Espargaro will not race full-time for the team next season and will move aside for the young Spaniard. It is not yet confirmed what role he will have within the GASGAS Factory Racing Tech3 team.
Pit Beirer, GASGAS Motorsports Director, said: “We had an important and difficult decision to make for our GASGAS team for 2024. Augusto has made impressive first steps in MotoGP and we are totally convinced he has the speed and the intelligence to keep on progressing.
“Pedro is a very special talent who has already won so much, so quickly and 2024 will be about him learning to take the next step with the big boys in MotoGP. I want to thank Pol for everything he has done and all he continues to do for us. This guy is super-tough and super-determined and that’s why we want to count on him as an important part of our structure.
“Pol’s openness and proactiveness deserves my deepest respect. It underlines his greatness as a person that he gave us a helping hand in this situation. It also shows his passion for the sport and his thoughts for the future.
“With these pieces in place and with Hervé, Nicolas, and all the team and their experience we have an exciting year ahead for the GASGAS brand.”
