Moto3: Ottl: Everything is perfect
Phillip Ottl took his first ever GP victory at Jerez, beating Marco Bezzecchi by the narrowest of margins to give KTM their second Moto3 win of the season. This made it KTM’s fourth win in six seasons in the Moto3 class at the Jerez circuit.
Ottl and Bezzecchi managed to avoid carnage when Aron Canet took out Jorge Martin, Tony Arbolino and Enea Bastianini at turn six with just a handful of laps remaining of the fourth race of the season. Canet will start the French GP from the back of the grid.
“It was a difficult and long race, especially when the rear tyre started to drop. It was difficult to ride but I’m so happy to get this win, and also for KTM and the team. I’m proud to be here with my father and the team. It is special to me. The bike was really fast on the straight and the mechanics did a great job. At the moment everything is perfect.”
In France, Ottl will look to become the first German to win back-to-back races in the lightweight class since Sandro Cortese won at Phillip Island and Sepang on a KTM in 2012.
