Simmons: F3 the “Best Experience of my Life”
After more than two years learning the ropes in Formula 4, Ayrton Simmons made his British Formula 3 debut at the series’ fly away race at Spa in the summer.
The Epping based racer picked up two points finishes at Spa, including a fourth place in the second race of the weekend, driving for the Chris Dittmann Racing team.
Simmons was pleased with his results and the “unbelievable” experience.
“Formula 3 was mega; what an experience at Spa. It was absolutely amazing,” he told Motorsport Radio. “It was the best experience of my life, for sure.
“I did a pretty good job. I’d never driven the car before, I’d never driven round Spa and we ended up qualifying fourth and exceeding fourth in one of the races.
“It exceeded our expectations and it was good fun as well. It was an unbelievable weekend.”
Simmons was forced to sit out the latest round of the F3 championship due to his F4 commitments, but he does plan to return to the championship and take more top results.
The next BRDC F3 round takes place at Donington Park on the 22-23 September, follow Motorsport Radio for the latest updates.
