Top 10 British Racers of 2018
6) Dan Ticktum – FIA Formula 3 European Vice Champion & Macau GP Winner
You’ve seen Norris in 10th as F2 vice champion so having Dan up in sixth could be seen as a little odd but for me, his utterly dominant weekend at Macau shot him up the list. Winning Macau once is hard enough but to defend the crown in such a fashion is remarkable. His regular F3 season also saw consistency prove worthy as he was relentless in his points finishes despite not always being the fastest on track. It’s easy to see why Red Bull have backed his journey towards F1.
5) Sam Bird – Third in FIA Formula E Championship
I don’t think Sam gets the credit he deserves. It was always going to be a struggle with the DS powertrain seemingly inconsistent throughout the 2017-18 season and he still managed to take victories at both Rome and the season-opener in Hong Kong as he narrowly missed out on second in the standings to Audi’s outgoing champion Lucas Di Grassi. Whilst he didn’t pull up many trees in his LMGTE Pro Ferrari in the World Endurance Championship, a stellar season in FE earns him a spot in my top five.
