Tourng Cars: TCT and TCR UK Join Forces for 2019
TCR UK Championship, run by WSC Ltd. have announced they will be joining forces with the Touring Car Trophy for 2019.
On the 5th April, TCR UK announced they would join the TCT for 2019, in which the drivers will be competing for a dedicated classification, with a TCR UK title to be awarded at the end of the season.
Maximum Motorsport’s Touring Car Trophy, which is preparing for its highly anticipated maiden season, is open to NGTC spec and S2000 cars, as well as TCR machines, which will now receive further entries thanks to the merger.
WSC and TCR’s involvement will still be overseen by David Sonenscher.
“We are very pleased with this agreement. When I came on board, my role was to find the best way forward for TCR in the UK and, after looking at the situation and numerous discussions, I felt that a cooperation with Stewart Lines and his organisation, who have built themselves a solid reputation, would be the best solution. This collaboration will help to provide a solid base to establish TCR in the UK for good.” – David Sonenscher.
TCR UK will also continue to be run by the BRSCC, which has held the licence for the championship since its inception in 2018. Last year, Daniel Lloyd took eight victories on his way to the title.
“This is an important development for anybody who wants to race a TCR car in the UK. The TCR concept is a massive success worldwide and we plan to replicate this in the UK.” – Stewart Lines (Maximum Motorsport)
Lines himself competed in TCR UK last season, finishing sixth in the championship standings. TCR regulars Lewis Kent and Darrelle Wilson have already confirmed their entry for this season and will continue in the TCR class.
Meanwhile Henry Neal, son of Touring Car legend Matt, leads the NGTC entries, racing for Team Dynamics in a Honda Civic Type R (FK2).
The full calendar will be announced in due course, though the provisional entries suggests the new series will start in May, running until October.
